Physicochemical and biopharmaceutical characterization

Thermodynamic and apparent solubility, pKa and plasma protein binding — properties that govern absorption and distribution.

Physicochemical properties determine whether a drug dissolves, crosses membranes and reaches its target. PKBio measures these properties under conditions that mimic the body, generating data that directly feed the pharmacometric models.

What we do

  • Thermodynamic and apparent solubility, including media that simulate gastrointestinal conditions.
  • pKa (ionization constant), which defines the predominant form of the molecule at each pH.
  • Plasma protein binding, which determines the unbound fraction — the one that acts and is eliminated.

Why it matters

These parameters guide formulation choices, explain differences in absorption and reduce the uncertainty of PBPK and PBBM models.
